Keeping the room clean without making it your hobby

Enclosure cleaning has a reputation it doesn't have to deserve. With the liner system and a two-tier schedule, the whole discipline is minutes a day and one short Saturday appointment.

Daily is a two-minute sweep: droppings and wet bedding out with a small scoop, water bottle topped, hay rack refilled. Do it at the same hour and the tenant learns the routine — most will hold a polite conversation with the scoop by week two.

Weekly is the liner's show. Unhook it, carry the whole floor out, shake it over the bin, wipe with plain diluted vinegar where needed, dry, rehang. Fresh bedding in, and the room resets to day one. The walls never come down; the whole appointment runs shorter than the kettle.

The cat suites move the same logic to the litter drawer: it pulls from outside the enclosure, so the least pleasant job in cat ownership happens without opening the room or negotiating with its occupant. Tiers wipe down shelf by shelf.

The aviary's splash guard earns its keep here — hulls and water stay inside the perimeter, and the pull tray underneath takes the daily fallout. Weekly, perches and bowls get a hot-water rinse; monthly, the tray gets the vinegar treatment.

One product-safety line worth keeping: plain vinegar solution and hot water are the whole cleaning kit. Small lungs share the room with whatever you spray in it — skip the scented aerosols, always.
